Machete Jr
Machete Jr also known as Edward Mpundu, is a Zambian rapper based in Samfya the tourist capital for the Zambia Northern circuit of Luapula Province.
Machete Jr draws his inspiration from musical artists such as Tech9ne, Lucky Dube and most of the Zamrock artists of 1970 in Zambia. Hence,his style of rap combines new age influences with aspects of Dunka, African Hip hop, Zamrock, and Afro beats. His intent is to educate, entertain and inform through music. He uses music as a tool to communicate important information and amplify voices of the less privileged in his society.
Machete Jr is also one of the five member of a music group from Luapula known as Knack Unity. The group was formed in 2020 and consists of Ben Hitmaker, Single H2K, Kwanza and Cap10 Jay. The group ankers on the ideology of pan-africanism, with a vision to mainstream music that is for Africans by Africans all around the world. It is therefore no surprise that Machete Jr also draws inspiration from Pan-Africanists like Julius Malema, one of South Africa’s strongest opposition leader. In mid 2021, Knack Unitys' popularity grew rapidly across the country via various social media platforms in all 10 Provinces of Zambia through songs like, Dollar, Babufi, Wilaba, Business, Umudanso, Oh No, and Freedom.
