Established in 2016, Modzi Arts is a Lusaka-based arts institution championing Zambia's artistic heritage. We cultivate a dynamic environment for artistic creation, bridging traditional and contemporary practices. Through exhibitions, performances, workshops, and residencies, Modzi Arts fuels artistic exchange, research, experimentation, collaboration and development within the Zambian community. We are housed in a 1970s-era restored building features the Zamrock museum, two galleries, Dj studios, library, and a variety of creative spaces.

Fabrik party lusaka
Modzi Arts under our concept of Zamrock Museum is excited to partner with + Skeyi&Strobo Fabrik Party (SS Fabrik Party, for short) which is coming from Zimbabwe and has become Zimbabwe’s premier street culture event. In the city of Harare, it has offered a space for local creatives and entrepreneurs to express themselves through runway shows, live performances, pop-up stalls, and visual art. For its outing, Zimbabwe’s tastemakers will assemble at the Modzi Arts in Ibex Hill to break the ground around urban culture within Lusaka. Founder and curator of the Fabrik Party, Ulenni Okandlovu, describes the event as “the creative’s revolutionary party, a celebration of vibrant street art and its emerging subcultures.”

Modzi AIR OPEN STUDIO WITH Maingaila Muvundika
In Folktales and real life, we have been conditioned to believe that there is a “saviour” that will swoop in when the going gets tough. For many, this saviour took shape in the form of higher beings and entities (think Ba Leza or Ma Ancestors), divorced from our everyday lives but still engaged enough to hear our cries and do our bidding where necessary.
In contemporary times, we have a global challenge, capitalism. Once believed to be a saviour in its own right, it has evolved into a gateway for many atrocities. As the guiding principle of how the global community is organised, it creates a structure with which we must function which I believe goes against how we should act as individuals, to each other and as a collective.
For Mainga's residency he would like has been experimenting and explore printmaking influenced by his photography series.
