Modzi Arts: Cultural Centre. A multidisciplinary space for artists to learn, exchange and showcase in Zambia
Modzi Arts is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation, located in Lusaka, Zambia. (“Modzi” meaning “one” in Njanya dialect). It was established in 2016, with the vision of providing a space for knowledge exchange, experimenting, engagement and dialogue within the arts sector in Zambia.
Modzi Arts aims to grow the multidisciplinary contemporary art and cultural scene and make it more visible within and outside the Zambian society, by creating a space that is easy to access, offering different art activities. The professional art and cultural scene in Zambia has expressed the need for tools in the development of artistic production through resources like work space, networking, platforms, exposure, education and creative funding.
Modzi Arts came into existence after research done by artists and would-be artists who struggled to pursue artistic ventures. The realization was that ultimately, the diversity and quality of works created by the Zambian artistic community, suffered greatly. We work towards empowering and improving the quality of Zambian Artistic content as a means of strengthening the art scene as well as increasing the livelihood for marginalised groups, specifically women and youth through enhanced artistic development. As a subsequent aim, we strive to create opportunities for cultural contributions towards an increased self-image of the Zambian art community.
We offer: Events | Art Gallery | Education
